Lipidomics of Cell Secretome Combined with the Study of Selected Bioactive Lipids in an In Vitro Model of Osteoarthritis
Laboratory studyHumans
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Human primary articular chondrocytes stimulated with TNF-alpha; secretome from human adipose- and bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells and dermal fibroblasts
- Dose used in the study
- Not stated in the abstract; palmitoylethanolamide and 2-AG added to cell culture
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- Mass spectrometry lipid profile of cell secretome; prostaglandin E2 release, COX-2 expression and nitric oxide production in TNF-alpha-stimulated chondrocytes.
What the authors reported
TNF-alpha raised PGE2 release, and 2-AG raised it further. Palmitoylethanolamide brought PGE2 release down to the level of unstimulated cells, partly blunted COX-2 expression and partially reduced nitric oxide release.
Limits of this study
A cell culture study of human cartilage cells; it cannot show effect in people or animals treated in practice. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
