What the authors reported
These compounds act through several mechanisms, including restoring the microbiota, strengthening the gut barrier, and immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive actions. Published data suggest they improve IBS symptoms with good safety and tolerability, though the author says clinical trials so far are limited and more are needed.
Limits of this study
A narrative review with no new data and no trial numbers for palmitoylethanolamide. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
