Localization of cannabinoid receptors CB1, CB2, GPR55, and PPAR-alpha in the canine gastrointestinal tract
Laboratory studyDogs
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Canine gastrointestinal tissue samples, ex vivo
- Dose used in the study
- No PEA given. Immunohistochemistry for four receptors
- Duration
- Not applicable
- What was measured
- Distribution of CB1, CB2, GPR55 and PPAR-alpha receptors in the dog gut wall
What the authors reported
All four receptors were found in the dog gut. PPAR-alpha, the main proposed target of PEA, was on blood vessels, smooth muscle and glial cells of the myenteric plexus. CB2 was on mast cells and immune cells in the lamina propria.
Limits of this study
An anatomical mapping study. It shows the receptors exist in dog gut; it does not show that PEA acts on them there or that giving PEA changes anything. Listed because the mechanism pages rely on such maps.
