What the authors reported
The authors summarise studies in dogs and cats, including an open multi-centre study of 160 dogs given 10 mg/kg a day for 56 days, and the cat trial by Noli and colleagues. They describe the safety record as robust. They conclude that more data are still needed and that the field is in its infancy.
Limits of this study
A narrative review. Several of the dog studies it describes were open-label, and some tested related compounds or combinations, not palmitoylethanolamide alone. The review received no external funding, and the authors declared no conflicts.
