- Adult mice; numbers not stated in the abstract
- Dose used in the study
- Prophylactic palmitoylethanolamide; dose and route not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- Targeted lipidomics (COX, LOX and CYP450 pathway lipids, membrane phospholipids, cPLA2 products, free fatty acids) and gene expression in hippocampus and spleen, plus plasma lipidomics.
What the authors reported
Prophylactic PEA produced broad transcriptional changes in inflammatory pathways in both tissues and, in hippocampus, regulation of genes for neuronal activity and excitability. Spleen showed a large fall in membrane lipid levels with a shift toward pro-resolving lipids, and plasma lipid patterns largely mirrored the tissue changes.
Limits of this study
A mouse mechanism study in healthy animals with no disease challenge; it cannot show effect in people. Dose, route and duration are not in the abstract. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
