The multitarget FAAH inhibitor/D3 partial agonist ARN15381 decreases nicotine self-administration in male rats
Laboratory studyOther animalsWith ARN15381 (a FAAH inhibitor and D3 partial agonist), URB597 and CJB090; palmitoylethanolamide itself was not given
This study tested palmitoylethanolamide together with ARN15381 (a FAAH inhibitor and D3 partial agonist), URB597 and CJB090; palmitoylethanolamide itself was not given. Its results cannot be assigned to palmitoylethanolamide alone. More combination studies.
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Male rats trained to self-administer nicotine; numbers not stated in the abstract
- Dose used in the study
- Not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- Nicotine self-administration after pretreatment with ARN15381, the FAAH inhibitor URB597 or the D3 partial agonist CJB090.
What the authors reported
ARN15381 dose-dependently reduced self-administration of a high nicotine dose but not a lower dose. URB597 and CJB090 given alone did not change nicotine self-administration at either dose.
Limits of this study
A rat study; it cannot show effect in people. Palmitoylethanolamide is mentioned only as one of the lipids broken down by FAAH; PEA was not given. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
