Controlled trialHumans
- Design
- Controlled trial
- Subjects
- 112 patients with sciatic neuropathic pain in Spain, assigned to conventional treatment plus palmitoylethanolamide or conventional treatment alone
- Dose used in the study
- Not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- Not stated in the abstract
- What was measured
- Pain VAS and SF-12 quality of life, analysed by sex
What the authors reported
Men improved on all measures with palmitoylethanolamide added; women improved on pain only. Regression showed an interaction between male sex and treatment for the SF-12 mental component.
Limits of this study
Allocation method, blinding, dose and duration are not in the abstract. A sex-difference analysis in 112 patients has little power, and the finding has not been repeated. Same Spanish setting as the Guida 2010 trial.
