Effects of a new compound containing Palmitoylethanolamide and Baicalein in myocardial ischaemia/reperfusion injury in vivo
Laboratory studyOther animalsWith baicalein
This study tested palmitoylethanolamide together with baicalein. Its results cannot be assigned to palmitoylethanolamide alone. More combination studies.
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Rats with myocardial ischaemia/reperfusion injury from 30 minutes of coronary artery occlusion followed by 2 hours of reperfusion
- Dose used in the study
- PEA-baicalein composite (9:1), 10 mg/kg, given 5 minutes before the end of ischaemia and again 1 hour after reperfusion
- Duration
- 30 minutes ischaemia plus 2 hours reperfusion
- What was measured
- Myocardial tissue injury, neutrophil infiltration, mast cell activation markers (chymase, tryptase), cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-1beta), oxidative stress, and NF-kB and apoptosis pathways
What the authors reported
PEA-baicalein treatment reduced myocardial tissue injury, neutrophil infiltration, chymase and tryptase expression, and TNF-alpha and IL-1beta production. It also reduced oxidative stress and modulated NF-kB and apoptosis pathway activity.
Limits of this study
A rat model of induced heart injury; it cannot show effect in people. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
