Micro Composite Palmitoylethanolamide/Rutin Reduces Vascular Injury through Modulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 and NF-kB Pathways
Laboratory studyOther animalsWith rutin
This study tested palmitoylethanolamide together with rutin. Its results cannot be assigned to palmitoylethanolamide alone. More combination studies.
- Design
- Laboratory study
- Subjects
- Rats with vascular injury induced by complete ligation of the left carotid artery
- Dose used in the study
- Micro composite PEA/rutin (1:1), 10 mg/kg; administration route not stated in the abstract
- Duration
- 14 days
- What was measured
- Vessel morphology; cytokines (MCP-1, IL-1beta, IL-6, TNF-alpha); adhesion molecule ICAM-1; oxidative and nitrosative stress markers (nitrotyrosine, PARP, NRF2 pathway).
What the authors reported
PEA/rutin treatment reduced the vascular morphology change caused by carotid ligation, along with MCP-1, ICAM-1, the cytokines IL-1beta, IL-6 and TNF-alpha, and markers of oxidative and nitrosative stress. Fourteen days after ligation, untreated vessels showed altered morphology with inflammatory cell infiltration and reactive oxygen species production.
Limits of this study
A rat model of surgically induced vascular injury; it cannot show effect in people. Funding and conflicts not stated in the abstract.
